Fitger's Inn

Duluth is a special place. My girlfriend and I came on a spur-of-the-moment trip, and since she'd stayed here a lot before, we ended up in the same room she'd had on other visits. The building's fun to wander around, with shops including a restaurant, an espresso bar, and a dog store.

I’ve stayed in plenty of five-star hotels, and I was really pleased with the quality here, from the food and linens to the customer care. Fully satisfied, and I’d recommend staying here.

We've had stays here ranging from great to average, but this room was awful. We were assigned something other than what we'd reserved. Since we were tired, it was only for one night, and the hotel was full, we accepted it. Room #217, Nov 22-23, was far too hot. The thermostat was positioned badly, about 7 feet up, and the window was 6-7 feet up the wall and seemed stuck or frozen. Staff said they'd fix the window, but it never happened. The radiator may have had a stuck valve, since it stayed hot even with the system set to cool. Dec 01: Thanks to the owners for looking into it. Staff must have known there was a problem, since the thermostat was set to cool and the fan was on.

Our flight plans fell apart at the last minute, so my wife and I needed somewhere else to go and chose Duluth. I called Fitger inn at 11pm, and the man who answered was polite and booked us into a lake side room. We could check in at 7am the next morning. The rooms were clean and updated, and the historic place was fun, with great amenities inside and outside. It's right next to superior. I'd recommend it.
