Dunsmuir Lodge

A small thing: the coffee pot in our room leaked and had already melted or marred the table surface before we used it. A replacement coffee maker or a waterproof tray under the coffee setup could easily fix that. Otherwise, this was a clean, homey place with a real old-school road trip feel. Our room, number 11, had its own air conditioner, and it wasn't too noisy. The bed was comfortable, and we liked the tap water, wifi, sheltered porch, gazebo, and two picnic table areas. There are gorgeous old oak trees, blackberries to pick in summer, and what looks like a big meadow down the slope behind the lodge where kids can run around. It isn't fancy, but it feels welcoming. Other family members stayed in the suite by the office and seemed happy. Next time we're in the area, which should be soon, this will be our go-to motel.

It's super cute, quiet, and clean here, and feels much nicer than a plain Jane chain hotel. The front desk man was very welcoming, even though I checked in late. Pets are allowed, and he offered an extra blanket for my dog. I'd definitely stay again.

The location is a green, semi-rural stretch of road I've always liked, about a mile from downtown Dunsmuir and just a minute from the freeway. The room was in good shape, nicely appointed, and didn't feel like a generic American motel room. It was quiet, and the whole place had a good vibe. The staff clearly care about the property and guests' experience. It's a small operation, so we only spoke with two people, but both were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we had a good stay. A welcoming, attractive motor inn.

I first found this lodge in April 2024 while driving from WA to the Bay Area and had a great stay. I came back last month, in July 2025, to spend time with family who drove from the Bay Area, and we all had a great time. The staff were friendly, the lodge was well kept and pet friendly, and it's conveniently placed for lots of outdoor and recreational spots. I look forward to staying here again 🙂
