Hampton Inn & Suites Durham/North I-85

If you stay here, you might want to ask for a first-floor room. Only one elevator was working, and I understand the other had been out for a month. The working one crawled between floors, was not air-conditioned, and got painfully slow when people piled in during the busy morning and evening periods. The location near I-85 was the best part. Check-in went well and the staff were friendly. The room looked recently updated and was clean, and the insulation kept street and neighbor noise down. But the air conditioning was noisy and kept cycling all night, making sleep difficult. Breakfast was standard, with a good selection, warm hot items, and fresh, good coffee. The hotel is adequate for a quick night off the highway, but it fell short of the usual Hampton Inn standard and I’d be disappointed if I expected the brand's typical comfort.

The rooms are always really nice and clean, the staff is friendly, and breakfast is lovely. We’re grateful for the good stays, especially while my husband is having surgery. We’ve spent about five nights here, with two more stays booked. One frustration: if you book through an app other than Hilton, you get no points, which feels disappointing when we're staying so often. It can also be noisy at night, with ambulances, fire trucks, slamming doors, and loud vehicles outside. The soundproofing could use some help, though I know the hotel can’t control all that.

Yaaqob at the front desk was really helpful with several things we needed, and the staff were great. The rooms were quiet, and the location was convenient.

Room 406 felt and smelled clean, with the usual Hampton Inn furniture and no real complaints. Breakfast had the normal selection, though I was disappointed they didn't serve oatmeal this morning. They did put out instant oatmeal, but I don't like that kind.
