Hampton Inn Dyersburg

The evening staff were lovely, helpful, and kind, but the morning staff watched me like a hawk and made me uncomfortable. I’ve stayed here to visit family for years, and it was my go-to for the last six, but I don’t think I’ll return. They were renovating, and after one night I had to move because the shower and phone didn’t work. In the second room the window shade wouldn’t come down, so I had to hang a shower curtain there. With all that work going on, they shouldn’t charge more than other hotels. I paid far too much for a room under renovation.

The front desk staff were welcoming, but I don’t understand how management thinks it’s okay to charge full price for rooms still being renovated. My room had no sofa, though you could see where it belonged, the bathroom floor was lifting, and the window treatment was only partly done. I booked after pulling off the highway for the night and didn’t expect to be put in a room like that. Stay elsewhere until the renovations are finished.

The highway was easy to hear, and the parking lot had huge potholes. For a double queen in the off season, I paid $168, while the Marriott was $135. The room had flat pillows, a noisy HVAC that ran all night at 76, dust and hair in the bathroom, and a faucet leaking around its base that soaked my toiletries bag. I reported those issues in the morning. They wrote a maintenance ticket and said they couldn’t wait for the remodeling, but nobody apologized or offered to help, and no one followed up afterward. The guest services person wasn’t friendly either. I’ll stay somewhere else next time.

There was never anyone at the front desk, all evening or when I arrived, so I couldn’t ask to move rooms. Mine smelled and was in complete disrepair: missing baseboard, dirty carpet, no headboard, just a box spring and mattress. The whole hotel had an odd odor, and housekeeping carts sat in the hallway day and night. Disgusting. I can’t believe they charge $200 a night for this dump. I’ll never stay here again.
