Hampton Inn Kingston

I wouldn’t stay here again. The hotel feels old and needs updating, and I think the front desk staff need more training. This is the only Hampton Inn I’ve seen where receptionists were allowed to wear their hoodies up at work. That’s not lounging at home, it’s a job at the front desk. My room also had just one charging port, tucked in a corner beside a tiny stand with barely any space for things.

I live two hours away, and after I stupidly left my favorite jacket in the room, they called me the next morning to arrange delivery. That was really kind, and I want to give GM Ramona a special shout-out. The hotel is clean, the rooms and bathrooms are a really nice size, and the staff are professional and friendly.

The heating system needs work. Its display cuts off the numbers so you can’t see the right temperature, and adjusting it is difficult. Breakfast is good, though I can’t figure out the chain’s eggs. They look like stamped-out omelets and taste as if they were frozen and then microwaved. I appreciated how clean this Hilton was, plus the drawers and hangers were more than adequate, unlike at many other Hilton properties I’ve stayed in. One young man at the front desk on a weekday afternoon was welcoming and friendly. Another front desk worker there on a different weekday late afternoon wasn’t as presentable as I expect at a Hilton.

I left a shirt behind, and they told me they could mail it within 90 days. I sent in the authorization form to cover shipping, then heard nothing from them. Six months later, they said the shirt was gone. It’s obvious they stole it. That’s not the standard I expect from Hilton hotels. They also kept insisting that 17 October was more than 90 days after 28 July. Clearly somebody needs to go back to primary school.
