Glades Motel

We arrived around 6:30 on a Tuesday and saw people using drugs in the parking lot. The smell was strong, and the place felt very uncomfortable and not at all family-friendly. We told the front desk we wouldn’t be staying, and the attendant said our card hadn’t been charged and wouldn’t be. They charged it anyway and now won’t refund us. The on-site manager has argued with me for three weeks, insisting the policy allows only three days, even though it took a month for the charge to show up on our credit card statement. Terrible customer service and business practices. I wouldn’t recommend this motel to anyone.

We slept well, which was exactly what we needed on our way to Everglades National Park. The bed was really comfortable, and the TV was good for watching Monday night football. The room at the Glade motel in Naples was small but very clean, just like the pictures, with a nice refrigerator. The shower was narrow, but very nice, and the towels were good. We’d stay here again, especially if we were taking US 41 to the national park.

Three years ago, this felt like one of those little 1950s mom-and-pop motels from my childhood trips with my parents. It had been remodeled, was clean, and sat conveniently on the old Tamiami Trail in Naples. The owner was sweet and seemed to care about guests. My more recent six-night stay was a different story. She’s still friendly, but the quality has gone downhill. My room wasn’t cleaned one day, and for the other five the bed was only half made. The microwave and fridge were so rusty I was afraid to use them, and the sheets and towels had holes in them. I’d tell people to stay away.

The location is great, and the room, bathroom, and bed were clean and decent. The service was another matter. I’d already booked and paid through booking.com, but after giving my card for a deposit at arrival, I was charged again for the room. They said they’d count that charge as the deposit and refund it at checkout, and I’m now convinced they won’t. The person at the front desk was rude and unprofessional, eating when I arrived, dressed casually in a sleeveless undershirt and flip-flops, and hard to communicate with. When I came back later with a question, another employee was rude too. If the money somehow gets refunded, I’ll update my rating.
