Sunrise Motel

A great little motel, very clean and easy to get in and out of. I got a fabulous rate by booking through Expedia, and the owner went out of his way to help when I got lost on the drive down. If I’m back in the v area, I’d definitely stay again.

It’s not the Ritz Carlton, but it’s clean and very affordable. For some reason the staff feel like family. They really care about making sure you’re comfortable and satisfied during your stay. Thanks to Melanie, Brandon, and especially Josephine.

The room was far too expensive, about three times what it was worth. We’d planned to stay two nights, but there was no way after seeing it. We had to wait for the manager to return before we could check in. The room was tiny, with a concrete wall that made it feel like a prison cell, and the TV was very small. There were just two towels for two double beds and one tiny bar of soap. No ice or soda machines, and only a shower, no bathtub. Not recommended.

We found the manager wonderful, the room clean and quiet, and the Wi-Fi excellent. It’s a basic, friendly little motel, so don’t expect Hilton. The room has a refrigerator, microwave, and small TV, which was enough for us. We’d considered camping to save money, but a dirt spot and picnic table at the campground would’ve cost $50, plus $26 for KOA membership, or $76 total, a dollar more than this room. A KOA cabin was $149 plus the $26 membership, and it was still very basic. The location is one of the perks: right on highway 41, handy if you’re heading to Key West or returning on the scenic route. There are restaurants, Big Lots, a market, and plenty of places nearby to get food or supplies. We recommend it.
