Tawas Bay Beach Resort

We had a fantastic stay this week. Our ground-floor room looked out over the lake, and it was quiet, clean, and had really comfortable beds. Breakfast on Friday was the best I've had, and both waitresses were attentive and friendly. Wednesday's dinner was one of the best we've ever had, with plenty left over. Thanks to everyone, we're already looking forward to coming back.

The view was pretty, and the staff were nice, but the place feels dated, like it might have been a great hotel 20 years ago. There aren't enough plugs in the rooms, the carpets need a professional cleaning, and the air conditioners smell funny. Without bathroom exhaust fans, the rooms get really sticky after a shower. Breakfast was a letdown, too. If you're expecting a proper meal, it's just packaged muffins or cereal, more like a Motel 6 breakfast.

The waterfront Tiki bar is a great feature, and the indoor lounge and restaurant are nice. The pool and jacuzzi are enjoyable, though they can get loud and crowded with young kids. I miss the pool table they had years ago. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the location is hard to beat, though that does make it a little pricey. The beach could be cleaner, and the one on the other side of the pier is a short walk and much better. I wish the room had a microwave, and that free breakfast were included like at most hotels in this price range.

Being right on Lake Huron in East Tawas makes the resort convenient, and you can walk to the shops. The property is nice, with beach access and a great beachside bar. Our room was clean and nice, though nothing special, and the TV was difficult to use because some channels wouldn't load. We were there with a group, and it seemed like everyone ran into some kind of issue. The front desk staff were very nice and tried to help, but it seemed the people responsible for fixing the issues weren't getting them resolved. It's a lovely place for a family stay, and I'd come back if the room price felt worth it.
