Homewood Suites by Hilton Eatontown

The common areas were nice, and the location worked for us, with easy access to what we needed. But one of the two elevators was out for most of our stay, and we probably wouldn’t return. Our room was okay, though there was a leak under the kitchen sink that had to be repaired. I also needed allergy medicine during the stay. I’m not sure whether that was from a previous guest’s pet smell or mustiness from the leak. Breakfast was poor every day. The potatoes were okay and some bananas were ripe, but the apples were soft and the rest of the food didn’t look edible.

The staff were very accommodating when I needed to add two nights to my stay. My room was clean and inviting, and both it and the hallways were spacious. There are several restaurants and shopping centers nearby. I loved the place and would definitely stay here again if I’m in the area.

I enjoyed the stay. The people were nice, breakfast was good, and the location and service were good too. I do think breakfast could be improved with bacon, corn or rice flakes, and cereal options for kids. The incidental charge was very high, especially since there’s no restaurant. Comparable extended suites charged only a quarter to half as much. It also wasn’t clear what the fee would be on the Hilton site, the hotel’s site, or third-party sites. Still, it’s a nice place and I’d go back.

Finding a bug in our room was upsetting, and even with photos and the hotel’s own guarantee, we weren’t offered compensation. They moved us to another room as if that settled it. The next day, we asked for a bottle of water and were told we’d have to pay, despite getting one at check-in. Every front desk person we dealt with had an attitude and was unhelpful. There was no empathy or real attempt to make things right. It was a very disappointing stay, and I wouldn’t recommend the hotel.
