Hampton Inn Elkhorn Lake Geneva Area

We were in the area for a wedding, and the other hotel reviews had made me a little wary. Hampton Inn turned out to be a good choice. Checking in on the app was easy, and the digital key worked smoothly for the building and our room. The room felt welcoming and was clean, including the shower. There was even a welcome message on the TV, and the AC worked great. I’d definitely recommend it!

The staff were nice, breakfast was normal, and the strawberries for the waffles were a nice extra. They even showed us the sausage nutrition information, which I appreciated. Our room started out cold at 64, but eventually warmed up after we turned the heat up. The big disappointment was the pool: we’ve stayed twice, and both times its heater was broken, so the water was too cold to get in. There’s no hot tub either, since the new owners took it out in 2022. After a long day skiing, I’d hoped the pool and hot tub would help my muscles.

We booked a block of rooms for a wedding, including one we thought was for a family member. That family member booked separately, and we didn’t cancel the extra reservation because we thought it was theirs. Our family used five rooms from the block, but we were charged for the unused booking. Cindy was pleasant when I called the next day to dispute it, though she couldn’t decide on a refund. She passed a message to GM Byron, but he never called back. I tried again and left another message, with the same result. On my third call, Cindy told me Byron wouldn’t refund the money. I understand there was confusion, but given how many rooms our family booked, I think they could have offered something, even splitting the cost. Byron should have returned my call.

I was charged $250 for a supposed room stain after staying alone, and I had nothing to do with it. I made no mess and checked the room carefully while packing before I left. When I called politely to ask what happened, they said the manager was busy all week. The receptionist directed me to email. I asked for photos, paperwork or any proof, but management sent nothing. I even gave details about the room location, floor and side of the building to help check whether I’d been assigned a different room from the one on my receipt. That went nowhere. The only reply was a copied message saying they’d keep the charge and hoped I’d stay again. This feels like a charge for damage I didn’t cause, and they didn’t provide evidence. Avoid this hotel.
