Elkotel - The Newest Hotel in Elko

The hotel is nicely decorated and pretty clean, and you can tell the owner has put a lot of money into it. The bed was fairly comfortable, with plenty of pillows and clean sheets, though there was no real blanket, just a bed cover that felt like sandpaper. The electric stove is a great option, but there are no plates, silverware, or cooking utensils, and it isn’t vented properly, so cooking set off the smoke alarm. The shower and sink faucets were badly corroded with hard water. The TV didn’t work the first night until we power-cycled it. Breakfast had waffles, bagels, toast, cereal, juice, milk, eggs, and sausage, plus a water machine nearby. The young front desk staff weren’t dressed professionally, but they were kind and got the job done. I feel the owner isn’t around enough or doesn’t know how to manage places.

I’ve stayed there twice, and both rooms were great, really clean, with a comfortable bed and hot shower. Finding a place to plug in the coffee maker was a minor hassle. My concern is the front desk. The people working there were nice, but they seem to disappear after dark, even though the desk is supposedly staffed 24/7. When I took my dog out later in the evening and early morning, nobody was there. This trip, at 8:30 pm, I went down for a blanket, knocked on the door behind the counter, and even went into the kitchen area, but couldn’t find anyone. My mother-in-law had the same experience an hour earlier and called the desk several times with no answer. That feels like a security issue as well as poor service. I’ll give the hotel one more try next trip, but if they don’t fix it, I won’t stay again.

I was pleasantly surprised. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the amenities were good. I’d planned to stay at a neighboring hotel, but with the one-night rate and pet fee, it would have cost twice as much as the Elkotel. They were very accommodating and pet-friendly, and there are lots of good food options across the street. I felt safe and comfortable, and would book again.

Renovated, but not a new building. The rooms are clean and spacious, and the price is competitive. It took several minutes for hot water to reach the room, no exaggeration. The continental breakfast was good for a quick bite. Even with only 8 cars in the parking lot, it was kind of noisy at night, with hard floors and no smoke seals on the doors. I’d stay again.
