Village Motel

It was conveniently close to McDonald's, Tops supermarket, Walmart, and other stores. There was a small fridge in my room, and I could use the microwave in the office, though there wasn't one in the room. I heard the coffee at B&B was pretty good since McDonald's coffee was too weak. The room was clean and spare, and quiet enough for a good night's sleep on a comfortable bed. The door handle lock didn't work right, but there was a chain lock. I'd stay again.

The woman at the desk was exceptionally nice. She even moved her car so we could park closer to our room without me asking. Our room was surprisingly clean and nicely renovated, and restaurants downtown were an easy walk away.

The bed was comfortable and the sheets were crisp and clean, but I felt uneasy the whole time. The walls and ceilings were thin, there was hair in the drain, and I didn’t want to walk barefoot, though at least the floor wasn’t carpeted. A flimsy chain on the door didn’t help me feel secure. It got me through the night, but I was creeped out and ill at ease. Outside, the place looked really sketchy, like one of those run-down movie hideouts for people on the lam. Inside it was adequate and mostly clean. I got the sense that there was a little world of people moving in and out, then coming back. It’s cheap, but next time I’ll look for somewhere else in the area, even if it costs more.

The outside can be deceiving. If you can get past the exterior and keep in mind it’s a capital-M motel, it’s a nice spot for a night or two. The rooms are sparse but clean and comfortable, with mini fridges and tidy bathrooms. Bring your own toiletries since there isn’t much provided. The ACs took a while to cool things down, but after that the rooms stayed comfortable and cool while we were there.
