Ellijay Inn

It was a great base during a busy time. I could walk around downtown, and the Mexican restaurant across the street was fabulous. Mike's was only a four-minute drive away. The room was small but clean, the bed was comfortable, and the staff were super nice.

I had no trouble here. My room was ready, everything worked, and I was happy with my stay. It’s pretty much the only motel within walking distance of downtown.

The location made it easy to walk to lots of charming shops and restaurants, but the room was a letdown. It smelled strongly of stale french fries, the floor sloped so much we raced water bottles on it, and the TV remote didn’t work. The bed was so high that, at 5'2", I had to jump up onto it. The bathroom was basically a closet. The shower looked dingy, and its slippery floor caused my partner to slip and nearly fall, leaving bruises. At least the water was hot and the pressure was fantastic. The toilet paper holder sat behind the toilet and above my left shoulder, so those yoga classes came in handy. The electrical setup seemed questionable, and in my Building & Development work I wouldn’t consider it up to code in my state. The sink’s hot tap ran cold and its cold tap ran hot, which was only mildly annoying. I felt I paid too much for this stay.

The front desk woman got visibly upset when my card stopped working, raised her voice, blamed me, and said she wouldn’t let me in if it happened again. Check-in had been fine, but that encounter was awful. I was also charged $150 after being told it would be $75 a night plus a $50 deposit. I doubt I’ll ever see that deposit. If I could give zero stars, I would. She was the rudest person I’ve ever met. Terrible place and customer service. If you’re in Ellijay, stay somewhere else. Lesson learned, and this review will cost more than $50.
