Days Inn Ellis

We came back because it had been clean when we stayed six years ago, but this visit was a letdown. The toilet was clogged, and both it and the bathtub/shower were greasy and dirty. The bathroom was filthy, service was poor, and the front desk was empty whenever we looked. We had to dial zero before someone came down from the third floor in flip-flops. They offered another room, but we didn't want to stay or trust the breakfast after seeing that. Don't stay here!

The room floor was covered with something, and the bedding had what looked like blood on it. I was there coming and going for six days, but there was never anyone at the front desk. When I showed the tax-exempt form, the desk person couldn't remove the state taxes and told me to find a manager. There were no snacks to buy, breakfast was such a joke I only saw two people eating, and the coffee pumps were always empty. Sewer gas smells came from the front entrance, elevator door, and bathroom sinks.

The bed was soft, and the rooms were decent. It wasn't especially clean, though not terrible. Breakfast was waffles, bread, yogurt, cereal, and hard-boiled eggs. It does the job if you need a decent place to stay on the road. Not great, but not as bad as some recent reviews make it sound.

The day started badly once I saw the breakfast. It barely felt like one, and there was about half as much food as at other places I've stayed. Cereal and hard-boiled eggs were there, but nothing warm unless you wanted a waffle. A horrible way to start the day.
