The breakfasts were delicious, changed every day, and were a highlight of our five-night stay. We enjoyed chatting with Rachel and Mike each morning, hearing about the area and their history, and getting ideas for the day. They’re seriously some of the kindest people you’ll meet. The first-night cookies weren’t a one-time welcome either, there was something new every night. We were glad to be hiking and biking so much with all that food! We picked The Emory House while our youngest attended the Emory and Henry equestrian camp in June and considered the school for college. We made it a family summer college-tour road trip. There aren’t many places to stay right by the school, so it was either here or Abingdon. The Virginia Creeper Suite was the only room that fit three people, and having a private entrance and washer/dryer sounded ideal. Our daughter stayed in the dorm and rode horses for the week while the rest of us stayed here and explored. Rachel and Mike made sure we knew how to find the entrance, sending lots of pictures, checked about food allergies, suggested places to visit, and asked what time we wanted breakfast the next morning. We adjusted that after seeing how exhausted we were. Rachel had hoped to greet us, but we arrived late after a long, multi-day drive. Getting into the room was easy, everything was as promised, and freshly baked cookies were waiting. Great first impression, and it just kept getting better. They even handled my brain fart of forgetting our youngest needed to stay with us the first night because the camp dorm wasn’t available until the next day. I’m not getting dad of the year this year... The room was spacious even with three or four of us, and the beds were comfortable. We mostly just slept there, but after long days of hiking and bike riding it was nice to come back to our own private retreat. I don’t know yet whether my daughter will attend the school, but Rachel and Mike were wonderful unofficial ambassadors for the area.

We’re visiting from the UK, and this was a memorable stop on our trip. Rachel and Mike made us feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable, spotless, and well stocked, and breakfast was delicious, with local food.

Breakfast was the best part, with delicious eggs, potatoes, muffins, and fruit. It was a lovely change from a hotel, and we’ll definitely return. Mike was friendly and explained how to get in and check in. The room was spotless, and we enjoyed wine by the fire pit during our nice stay at the Emory House.

Just minutes from great hikes and historical sites, this B&B has lovely common spaces and plenty of breakfast. I also liked the modern touches, including USB, high speed WiFi, and smart TVs. The historical charm makes it a wonderful place to stay, and it felt much more memorable and special than crashing at a roadside hotel.

Mike and Rachel made it hard to leave after our two-night wedding stay at The Emory House. The homemade snacks, delicious meals, sound machines, ear plugs, and endless refreshments made us feel right at home. You can tell they put care into everything in the house. They’re exceptional hosts, and we’ll definitely stay again.
