I left within minutes because the room conditions were unacceptable and I didn’t feel safe. Trying to cancel and get a refund was even worse. I was told I’d get no refund if dog hair was found, even though my service dog had been inside for less than five minutes. It felt discriminatory, and things escalated. I was shown two rooms, both in unacceptable shape. The floors were literally taped together, bathroom cabinets were falling apart with exposed screws, and the room smelled off. The mattress was visibly soiled and the sheets looked dirty. A dead bird lay right outside, which seemed like a sanitation and health concern. I also saw what looked like a drug pipe on the ground there. People were loitering outside, adding to the uneasy feeling. At the desk I explained that the property and surroundings didn’t feel safe. Carlos became aggressive, yelled, and accused me of being racist. I told him plainly that I felt scared and unsafe because he was yelling, but he raised his voice more instead of calming things down. He kept saying I shouldn’t stay at any Extended Stay America locations because people of different races stay there, and claimed my fear was racism. My concerns were about safety, sanitation, how staff acted, and the condition of the property. I said they had nothing to do with race, but he kept calling me racist instead of addressing the problems or handling the situation professionally. He continued yelling in front of several guests and made no effort to lower his voice despite my repeated statements that I felt unsafe. It’s unacceptable for a male staff member to keep shouting at a woman after she says she feels unsafe. This had nothing to do with race. It was about unsafe conditions, sanitation, what felt like discriminatory treatment over my service dog, and aggressive, unprofessional staff conduct. As a woman traveling alone, I strongly discourage other female travelers from staying here.

The room is filthy, there’s no trash can, and there’s a gap of about an inch and a half under the door, big enough to put your hand through. There was vomit on the sidewalk outside, and an air conditioning vent grille outside was hanging wide open. The air conditioner doesn’t work properly, and I was told it didn’t have to work as well in the queen studio I paid for because it cost less than the double room. I’ve had to deal with this nightmare for another night. Police have shown up every one of the five days to arrest people for fighting or who knows what else. I was told I could leave or stay with the bad AC, but couldn’t get a refund if I left. Riel, the front office worker, was mouthy, rude, argumentative, condescending, and unhelpful. He said I couldn’t talk to the manager and wouldn’t contact him when I asked, though the manager seemed friendly and professional from what I could tell. I’m calling corporate. It’s a disgusting way to treat paying guests, and I’ll never stay at this Holiday Inn chain again. Don’t stay here, even if you’re desperate, or you’ll regret it.

Update: still nothing has been fixed. I’ve talked to the front desk three times, left a review, and called customer service. They said I’d get a call with a resolution within 48 hours, but it never came. I’m here indefinitely, and the desk staff have become dismissive and sometimes rude. My fridge still doesn’t work. I bought special cleaners to get rid of the cigarette and animal urine smells, and had to buy drawers for the fridge because nobody has looked at it. Maintenance has been promised several times and hasn’t shown up. The tub still won’t drain, and only two of the five bulbs work. When I brought towels and sheets down one night, the desk worker waved me away and told me to come back in the morning. I work nights, so I can’t be there in the morning. I know this is the cheapest option, but at $1,400-$1,800 a month for a studio, I expect a working room and helpful staff. I don’t need a PR response, I need something to actually happen. When I first moved in, the room smelled like stale cigarettes and cat urine. I asked for clean sheets, but the desk person said he needed to check with the manager and never got back to me. The fridge was missing its bottom drawer and all the door shelves, and only two lights worked. The tub wouldn’t drain. I raised these issues more than twice and was repeatedly told maintenance would come the next day, but nobody came. For a long term stay, I need a working fridge and appliances. Nearly $1,600 a month for a studio doesn’t seem like a lot to ask for these basics. The staff are nice but not very helpful, and no matter if you call 20 times, they don’t answer. My room didn’t even come with a phone. I guess I got lucky with a good room the first time, because this stay and the one before it had smelly, gross rooms.

The front desk woman gave me a full refund, thank goodness, so I could move to another hotel. I hope management cleans this place up for the health and well being of future guests. I can’t recommend it. Roaches were everywhere. I found five within an hour of entering my room, and the last straw was one crawling across my plate. The woman at the desk said they knew about the bug problem. She let me look at another room, but roaches were already all over the entrance as soon as I opened the door. I suggested fumigating, but was told that would mean closing the hotel. The rooms were dirty too: stained floors, roach droppings and shed skins, stained old washcloths put out for guests, dirty dishes in the cupboards, and dusty appliances. The hallways smelled of marijuana, and I could smell it from my bathroom. The staff were friendly, but the hotel itself was awful.
