Comfort Suites Escanaba West

After staying here every few months for two years, this last trip was easily our worst. We used to think of it as a home away from home when escaping the Twin Cities, and the kids had always loved it. For what a two-night stay costs, I expect a place where guests can feel safe and where staff take concerns seriously. This visit left me very disappointed. On Saturday, the pool was chaotic, with roughly 12 to 15 kids screaming, yelling, running around, and hitting balls with bats. Some had no adult watching them. The adults who were there seemed unconcerned. I later realized many parents were drinking and being loud in the lobby. On Friday night, 11-07-25, older teens had been running, jumping, and throwing balls in the pool. A bit of fun is understandable, but later they were in the halls while adults made a lot of noise drinking around the lobby and party room. Around 10 p.m. that night, some kids pounded on our door and ran off. It woke our infant, and my older two were scared and struggled to sleep, worried it would happen again. I reported it at the desk, but no one seemed concerned. The adults in the lobby ignored me, and staff neither apologized nor followed up. The next morning I asked one child's parents if they knew what had happened. They brushed it off. When I returned to the desk looking for some acknowledgment, I was treated as if I were overreacting. There was no apology or concern for guest safety. I also noticed there were no hallway cameras, which seems like a serious safety issue with unsupervised kids and late-night disturbances. Families come here to relax, not deal with disorder, loud intoxicated adults, and staff who don't seem willing to address safety.

The kids had a great time in the pool, especially on the water slide. They also had pool toys and a couple of child-sized floats and life jackets. Our room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel could use some updates, though it isn't run down. Stores and quick places to eat are nearby.

We stopped here for one night on the way up to the UP. The room was spacious and very clean, and the bed was really comfortable. Breakfast was good, too. I'd recommend staying here.

The pool room has a small water park and felt very welcoming for kids and families. There was an early hot breakfast, and the hotel itself is beautiful with a lot to offer. Restaurants aren't really within walking distance, since the location is a bit out of the way, but you can always get delivery. I enjoyed my stay.
