When I checked out after a long-term stay, they told me I wouldn’t get my $100 cash deposit back. I was told it was because I’d sprayed body spray, supposedly to cover up the smell of smoking. I do smoke, but I always went outside to the designated smoking areas. I was very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend these hotel chains, at least not the Escondido locations. I booked online, and the front desk required a $100 cash deposit before check-in.

I’ve stayed here a couple of times before without any problems. This time, after checking in and coming back from the store to lie down, I noticed the bed smelled terribly of urine. An employee came up with me to check after I reported it. There were no other rooms available, so I accepted a refund. I’d paid $98 but got only $84 back because they said taxes weren’t refundable. That felt like robbery. When I return something to a store, I get the full amount back. What they did may be illegal.

The room itself was fine. At check-in, though, the front desk woman barely spoke English and tried to tell me the deposit had to be $100 in cash. I said I only had a credit card and would need a refund if they couldn’t take it. They changed their tune pretty fast and somehow managed to charge the deposit to my card.

I’ve been traveling to the area lately and stayed here after booking on Priceline. With kids along, I really didn’t want to check in and out again when I unexpectedly needed another night. The front desk quoted me a higher rate, but when I mentioned what I’d booked for, the person checking me in told me to book online and save money. He said I could keep the same room. I was grateful for the extra money, and it turned out he was the owner, Danny Patel. I respect that he cared more about good service and a return customer than a few extra bucks. Thanks again, Danny 🙏
