Clarion Inn

The Simmering Pot restaurant on site was delicious. We ate there two nights and tried about nine different menu items between us, with no complaints at all. The prices were more than reasonable for the food, rooms, and bar. We were in town from NY for a family funeral, and several branches of the family stayed here. Everyone was happy, and although we booked at different times, the front desk kindly put us all in the same hall. Every staff member we dealt with was pleasant and accommodating. The rooms were immaculate, beds comfortable, and the pool chilly but nice. Breakfast had a surprising range of choices for everyone. We wish the reason for our stay had been happier, but we’ll definitely choose this hotel next time we visit.

The staff were nice, but with renovations underway, the place isn’t suitable to stay in right now. There was no breakfast during the remodel, the room had sparse furnishings, and the bathroom was outdated. It was fairly clean. We didn’t have enough towels for two, and when I asked for one, I got a dish towel and a small washcloth. I also asked for an extra pillow and was told there weren’t any. The mattress sagged and squeaked, and needs replacing.

Don’t waste your money here. Spend another $30-40 a night and get a clean place to sleep. The hotel is dirty, with ants everywhere and mold or mildew in the bathroom, shower, and on the floor around the tub. The linens look stained, dirty, or both, and given the condition of the room, I’d say they’re dirty. The beds are uncomfortable, the old pillows need replacing, and the towels feel like 40 grit sandpaper. Paying extra for peace of mind and a good night’s sleep is worth it.

The building shows its age, but it was very clean and we had a great stay. If we take this route again, we’ll stay here. My wife and I stopped for one night on our way to Columbus, OH, and the service was excellent. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast was amazing, and everyone at the front desk was dedicated to customer service. It was snowing Friday morning, and the chef told us the night before that she was sleeping at the hotel so breakfast would be served on time.
