Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Fairview Heights, IL

My daughter and I have stayed at several Country Inn & Suites. They've been dated and sometimes not the cleanest, but never this bad. In the first room, the sheets had stains in several colors, brown, red, and yellow, along with what looked like mold spots. I thought it was unhealthy. The front desk woman came to check and agreed she wouldn't stay in that room. The sheets in the second room were better, but the bathroom had black mold and the air freshener smell was so strong my nose burned and I could hardly breathe. I'm glad my son wasn't with us, since his asthma would have made that difficult. It was an unhealthy stay, and we won't be back.

The room was a decent size, but it wasn't clean. The floors were dirty and unkept, and more water leaked from the shower than came out of the showerhead. The pool heater was out, so the pool couldn't be used; even heated, the water was too dirty and unappealing. Staff were inattentive throughout. Breakfast food sat out all day without being changed.

We booked three rooms, and none had been cleaned on the day we arrived. One smelled of smoke, and we found blood stains, yellow and brown stains, and dead bugs. When I raised it, they insisted the rooms were clean and showed me another one that was just as bad. We left and drove 15 minutes to another hotel, but management wouldn't refund my money. The whole building gave us the runaround. If you like gross rooms and terrible management, this is the place for you.

The breakfast was the worst I've had at any Country Inn and Suites: burnt powdered egg patties, biscuits like hard cereal, and sausage gravy with a crust on top. There wasn't even a waffle maker, a first for me. The tub was discolored and had some mold. The room wasn't the best, but it wasn't the worst either. The front desk woman was unpleasant and didn't tell us the pool or breakfast hours. I stay at a lot of Country Inn and Suites, and this was by far my worst experience. I guess it depends on who's running the place. If you're used to better than average accommodations, pass on this one.
