Cadillac Motel Fanning Springs

The bed was okay, the TV worked well, and the BBQ place nearby was good enough. The owner was friendly, but the room didn't look clean, there were a few small roaches, and a mouse or rat slipped under the door on my last night. I fell asleep before noticing it, then found it building a nest under the bed in the morning. I kept my belongings in the car and only brought in what I needed each day because I didn't want to take any unwanted guests home. I stayed three nights and housekeeping never came. The shower left water all over the bathroom floor, and it stayed wet the whole time. I had to ask for extra towels to soak it up. The owner didn't check on it or do anything. There was only one water cup and no cup for heating water for the instant coffee I'd brought, though there was a microwave. After 3am I had to call management about noise from what seemed to be full-time residents. It's not a great place to impress anyone, but if you just need somewhere to sleep, I guess it could do. It has potential if the owners would step up. The days inn wasn't much more money and was a lot more traveler friendly, if you know what I mean.

I never got my deposit back, even though we had a contract signed by both sides. It's been a frustrating year of empty promises from the owner, Mike. He said my business would get the refund, but it never came. Mike apparently owns several hotels, including Cadillac and others. It's disappointing and unprofessional for a business not to keep its agreement. I'd urge anyone thinking of doing business with this establishment to be careful, and to choose their accommodations wisely. Mike seems more focused on making promises than following through.

The bed was really comfortable, and for the price the room is decent. Still, it could use more effort cleaning under the bed and behind the dresser. I found dead roaches in the dresser and near the fridge, though I haven't had any live ones to deal with. The old air conditioner works, but it's loud. I slept badly the first night, so I tried earplugs. The manager tightened something, which helped, though it still makes noise. Overall, I like the room and think it's good for the price.

After staying at this dive since November 2015, I'm done. My friend and I used to bring our own towels and linens, but put up with that because the price was fair and the service friendly and prompt. What changed things was when my friend got a room for himself, his wife, and their kids to shower after working in the woods all day. An older woman we'd never seen before asked him if anything would be missing from the room. When he checked out, he took the key to the office, and she pushed past him to inspect the room, asking if he'd wrecked it. I don't know who she was, but that was rude and mean. I'm never going back. There's a Comfort or Quality Inn in Chiefland for $25 more, with free breakfast and no one attacking your character or pride.
