Hampton Inn Farmville, VA

The renovation has left the whole hotel looking clean and modern, but the staff experience was awful. The one person who was polite and friendly was the white guy at the front desk in the morning. Everyone else was sassy, rude, and unprofessional. I’m a diamond member and stay at a Hilton hotel every week for work. This week’s bill included $5.00 per day for parking, which I hadn’t expected. When I called, one of the usual sassy people at the first desk said that was just how it was. Hilton corporate transferred me to the friendly guy I mentioned, and he removed the charge. The staff here makes it easy to never come back.

Housekeeping was great, the beds were the best I’ve slept in at any hotel, and it’s pet friendly. I’m pushing 60, so that’s saying something. Still, there was a car with a flat tire sitting in one of the three spots in front of the building for at least the whole week we were there. The place had no lights at night, despite the picture suggesting it would be beautifully lit. Workers ate the food and drank the coffee meant for the gas, so gas had to wait. The shower floor was slippery because there wasn’t enough water pressure to rinse shampoo and soap from under your feet. They also left dust everywhere while working on sheetrock and jackhammering concrete, without putting up plastic. At $200 a night, the breakfast alone should have been above par, not below.

I was in Virginia for business, up in the mountains, and found the hotel clean. The staff were professional, friendly, and courteous. I’d stay there again. I kind of like Virginia and plan to return.

My stay was awful. I couldn’t control the room thermostat, and when I asked the front desk, I got a rude-sounding “well that's just the way it is.” The room stayed uncomfortably warm, and I had a hard time sleeping. It was the first of August, so I expected to be able to set the temperature. I’ve never stayed at a Hampton Inn where I couldn’t control the thermostat. There’s a Holiday Inn next door, and I’m thinking I’ll stay there next time.
