Candlewood Suites Williamsport by IHG

The rooms are nice, and the front desk service was good. The facility is being updated, but housekeeping was a zero-star experience. I had to ask for three days before anyone cleaned my room. When it was finally done, they made one bed and left the other completely untouched. They didn't vacuum, clean up the bathroom, or take out the trash.

We got a newly renovated room on our recent visit, and this time the layout worked really well. It had the separate bedroom with one queen bed that I was used to, all new furniture, and a pull-out couch. There were a couple of small renovation snags: the phone had the wrong cord and the TV hadn't been programmed, but both were fixed right away. The room was at the far end of the floor from the elevator, near the stairs, which wasn't ideal after my knee and hip surgeries. Still, we were very pleased and will keep staying here. KUDOS! We've been coming to the Candlewood Suites in Williamsport, PA for family visits two or three times a year for 8-9 years, and we like that it's close to stores and restaurants. Breakfast across 3rd street at DOLLY's is always good. A few months earlier, though, we'd been unhappy with a different "newly renovated" room because the layout was useless and it had a few other small problems, including no phone and missing silverware. I mentioned that to staff this time, and it sounds like we weren't the only ones who disliked that earlier layout. It's nice that the owner(s) seem to have listened to the feedback.

I was in tooth pain every night, and we also got hit with a bad winter storm, but neither thing takes away from the visit. This was one of the cleanest and best Candlewood hotels I've stayed at. If you're going to Williamsport, this is the best place to stay.

We wanted to give it another try because we really like the location, and we'd been staying here on Williamsport family visits for about eight years because it was comfortable. The freshly painted walls and new carpets were nice, and the walk-in shower instead of a tub was a big plus after my hip and knee replacements. But there were no safety bars, either inside or outside the shower, and no phone to call the desk. The biggest problem was the layout in our double queen room. There was only one small table and chair, plus a recliner and tray table tucked into a dark corner, so we couldn't sit together to eat. To watch TV, you had to sit on the bed. The curtains also left a three-inch gap, and since the window faced the parking lot, we had to use a big clip to close them. For a couple, the room felt impractical. Maybe it would suit one person, but I hope they keep some rooms with the old breakfast bar or table and two chairs. Otherwise, having a kitchenette doesn't seem much use. Calling this a great renovation is like renting a car in August and finding it has no AC or radio.
