After the delays that day, I checked in close to 2 a.m. and got a room that reeked of smoke, with cigarette burns on the bed. There was mold or mildew in nearly every corner, the floors were dirty, and bathroom paint was peeling. I went straight back to the desk and refused the room. The next one had a broken heater and a TV that wasn't connected to anything and didn't work. The third room had a heater with no thermostat, just high or off, so I kept waking up hot and freezing. If it hadn't been 3 a.m., I would have left. I was traveling alone and had picked this cheap place, lesson learned. This was easily the worst Choice Hotel I've encountered as a Diamond member with plenty of travel. Less than ten minutes after checking in, I asked for a refund for the other two nights. I called several times, asked the GM to call me back just as many times, and opened a case with Choice, but heard and saw nothing. They did offer a discount on a future stay, ha! The only contact eventually received is in the updated photos. I still had to call and tell them to process the refund.

I booked this for my clients for one quick night, but their room hadn't been cleaned. They called the desk and were moved, then ran into the same kind of problem at breakfast: no clean tables, and the stewardess seemed moody when they asked. Her attitude changed after my client offered to wipe down her own table. She called it the poorest hotel she'd ever stayed in. These are their ratings for everything.

The front desk ladies and housekeeping were all friendly, helpful, and very nice. We had a good weekend with our soldier from Fort Bragg, played games as a family in the breakfast room, and made the best of things after a 20-hour drive. The hotel is close to the Fort Bragg Gates, the mall, and several places to eat. It was a little pricier than expected, though affordable and probably among the cheaper options around. We had two third-floor rooms for three nights. They looked nice after a remodel, but really needed a deep clean. The building is old, and the sheets, blankets, and towels were worn with a few old stains. The smoke detector beeped, but housekeeping brought a new battery right away. Breakfast was waffles, cereal, and muffins, and my boys were hungry again afterward. We saw a mouse on the second night, and otherwise no bugs apart from a spider in the bathroom. Several guests, perhaps long-term, seemed to hang around the ground floor, constantly coming and going with a horrible "skunk" smell. I felt reasonably safe with my husband and two adult sons, but probably wouldn't recommend it for my daughters.

The TV was the best part, good size, a remote that worked well, and lots of channels. The host was professional, pleasant, and seemed genuine. But I was fooled by the price and the website pictures. The outside gives a different impression from the inside, and you get what you pay for. There were fist-sized holes in the bathroom door, missing shelving with the mounting holes still there, and cigarette burns on the toilet seat, tub, counter, and sheets. A roach crawled by within 15 minutes. The smoke detector was missing, which worried me about safety. This is not the best-kept hotel I've been to, and it looks like the people who stay here are low budget.

We've seen no little critters inside, which is pretty impressive, can I get a hallelujah? The hotel staff are wonderful and seem to really care whether guests are happy and comfortable. That's refreshing these days. Keep it up, Kalakala and team, you're all awesome. Thanks!
