Fern River Resort

The views were lovely from 11A, but the stay was uncomfortable. The bed was really uncomfortable, and we left a day early even though we had booked three nights. We asked to be refunded for the unused night and were told no. The heater also didn't work, so we used the stove to stay warm, and there was hardly any privacy: the bathroom window had no curtains, and staff were "cleaning" the nearby cabin at all hours. We won't be back.

I was interested in having water access during our wedding weekend, so we tried contacting Fern River Resort for over two weeks about possibly booking it. I spoke with a woman twice, who I believe may have been the owner. She was kind and polite, but kept directing me to the event coordinator. Despite several attempts, I never heard from the coordinator, and we ended up booking somewhere else in the area. I haven't seen the property, so I feel disappointed giving it a low rating, but communication matters for this kind of business. I hope they can improve it.

The grounds looked beautiful, and we were eager to stay when we arrived. But the cleaning in our room seemed below par, so we couldn't stay for our reservation. Management came by promptly to inspect and agreed it hadn't been cleaned to their standards. They offered to clean it again. We explained our concern, and they graciously gave us a refund and suggested another place to stay. I'm sure they'll pay closer attention to room cleanliness in the future.

At night, it was lovely to open the window and listen to the river. The redwoods give this peaceful, rustic place a lot of character. The cabins look old, but they seem very well maintained, with plenty of upkeep. While visiting Santa Cruz, I stayed in a 4 star hotel that wasn't as nice as this place.
