Cindy and Gus at the front desk were kind and patient while dealing with a lot of frustrated guests. The manager, though, was hard to reach, and staff kept directing responsibility to the third-party booking company. Corporate said franchises can set their own customer service policies. Because the event required us to book through that third party, there was no cancellation option, and we were charged for the first night after a severe winter storm made travel unsafe. The booking company told us by email and in several calls that the hotel could waive fees and cancel the room. I was furious and would have given a negative rating. After I finally reached the manager, the issue was resolved and we weren’t charged. I’ve updated the review. I still won’t stay at Best Western again, especially this one, because of the customer service, not the refund policy.

The breakfast was sparse when we came down around nine. Most serving spots were empty, the bananas were turning brown, and the toast smelled burnt. The room itself seemed fine when we arrived, and we headed straight out to a concert in Indy after changing. We got back late and went to bed. In the morning, I noticed mildew all around every jet in the jacuzzi, so we skipped the bath and shower and just headed home. When I showed the desk employee photos, all he said was, “Oh.” The man who checked us in also seemed unfriendly, like our questions were a bother. If we’re back in the area, I’ll find another Best Western.

The people here made the stay easy. Front desk staff and management were friendly, answered my questions clearly, and helped with everything I asked for. The hotel was very clean and had plenty of amenities. Breakfast was hot, and I especially liked the waffle maker. Housekeepers working in the rooms smiled and said hello whenever I passed them. I’d recommend it whether you’re traveling alone or with family or friends.

We’d had good stays at Best Westerns in Los Angeles, St. Louis, Aurora (IL), and elsewhere, so I never understood why some people we know avoided the brand. This experience changed that. My daughter and I had booked two nights for a concert, but because I care for my bedridden mom, something came up and we couldn’t arrive until February 21st instead of February 20th. The front desk employee said our nonrefundable booking couldn’t be shortened, shifted to start on the 21st, or kept active if we missed the first night. I even offered to give up that night’s payment and arrive the next day, but was told the system would mark us as a no-show and cancel the rest. She made no effort to help. I hadn’t paid extra for a refundable booking because I didn’t expect to need one, and we can’t afford to throw away money. I’ve spent years as a Travel Agent helping people plan trips and deal with life getting in the way, and I’ve never seen a hotel so unwilling to consider any accommodation. The policy is ridiculous, and Best Western has lost a longtime customer. I won’t recommend it to friends or family. The location later replied with a response that felt tone deaf and showed no empathy. I won’t get into what’s happening with my mom at home, but I work a stressful full-time job, raise my daughter alone, and care for my mom in a hospital bed at home. A night or two away is a big deal for us, and we don’t get to do it often. My daughter had been excited to see two favorite performers, and now I can’t buy her souvenirs because I had to book another hotel. We lost $250 on the original reservation. Paying in advance was a mistake. They present it as a great promotion, but it feels like a way to take advantage of people. Shame on Best Western for putting profit ahead of people, including loyal customers.

We stayed here over Christmas break and really liked the hotel. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and breakfast was hot and nice. The parking lot is limited, but very well lit, so I felt safe. The location was one of the best parts of the stay.
