Microtel Inn by Wyndham Victor/Rochester

I feel safe staying here as a woman traveling alone, and the staff and management seem to care. It’s my go-to when I’m in the region. The place is clean, comfortable, affordable, and super quiet. The rooms are small, and so is the TV, but that doesn’t bother me. I like the breakfast, especially the biscuit egg sandwiches, and the rooms have nice clean bathrooms and towels. There’s a small coffee maker for coffee or hot tea and a mini fridge. The microwave is in the kitchen area, though it’s not a long walk. If highway or thruway noise worries you, ask for a room facing the back. They’ve also offered ear plugs before. The heater temperature wouldn’t adjust for me, but it worked out, even though I prefer a cooler room for sleeping. I’m very sensitive to chemical smells and had no problem with that, despite what others had mentioned. My one complaint is the dated carpet, which I wish they’d remove. Downtown Rochester is a 15-20 minute drive, and Eastview mall is just down the road, so it’s convenient.

On Monday morning, the general manager dug my car out after it was buried by the snowstorm. She’d already moved me right away when the heater in my first room kept acting up, and later offered a good rate when I needed to extend my stay. I can’t imagine going to those lengths is in her job description. That was exceptional customer service.

The general manager reminded us when we asked for a second-floor room that there’s no elevator. We knew, and I joked that we only looked old. We managed the stairs just fine and had a great stay. The staff were very friendly, the room was spotless and warmed up quickly, and the breakfast was very good for the price. The property has had some nice upgrades since we last visited. And for anyone complaining the rooms are small, remember the name: Microtel.

I was trapped inside my room for over an hour right after checking in. It was scary. A manager from another location came to fix the lock, but she didn’t acknowledge or greet me at all. By the time I got to the door, they were already more than halfway down the hall. I had to call the front desk and ask if I might need a different room. The original desk person was gone, and so was the manager from MACEDON. Nobody showed me a bit of courtesy. Fix the doors, especially the locks. Yuck!
