Americas Best Value Inn & Suites Flagstaff

The room was clean, but we didn’t get the one we booked because it hadn’t been cleaned yet. The place is very old, maybe a former HoJo’s, with rough patches where fixtures used to be. I couldn’t get hot shower water until I turned the sink’s cold tap on full blast. In the middle of the night I went to the office for drinking water because I didn’t trust the sink water; the vending machines had none. The office was shut, but the night window was open. They said there was water in the lobby, but wouldn’t let me have any and told me to come back at 6am. Breakfast was a hard-boiled egg, a slice of bread, and the usual painfully weak cheap hotel coffee, though Sweet’N Low was available. Parking was very limited, and there were too many other annoyances to list. It was clean enough for one night, but pay the extra $25 a night for somewhere better.

For the price, I’d stay here again. It’s a good choice if you’re trying to avoid the steep prices at other hotels, and our room was clean, with shower toiletries provided. The grab-and-go breakfast was good, too. It is an older hotel, but that wasn’t a problem for us.

We’ll definitely stay here again. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful, and one of them even saved me from a wardrobe malfunction by giving me earring backs before our concert. The rooms were updated, affordable, very clean, and surprisingly quiet for the location. Being right on historic Route 66 made it convenient, too. Our whole party agreed we had a wonderful stay. Fantastic job!

We booked a downstairs room because we’re seniors and have trouble with stairs, but at check-in they said they didn’t have one. They said they’d give us one if we could prove we’d been told that, which we couldn’t, so we had to carry our luggage upstairs despite both having health problems. We managed, but I don’t trust this place to do what it promises. Staff weren’t hospitable either. I may file a BBB complaint. When we leave tomorrow, Thursday, I’ll never stay at one of these hotels again. If I could give zero stars, I would. I’m a Google guide and my other reviews are generally good, but this one raised my blood pressure.
