After 40 years of staying at Hiltons, I'm still not sure how this place gets a two-star rating. It was cleaner than any Hilton I've stayed in, with real cleanliness rather than the usual chain feel. The manager and staff clearly pay attention to guests, their comfort, and safety. I only caught a quick glimpse of the manager when I arrived, but he reminded me of the fictional Monsieur Gustave H., always moving, getting things done, and making things happen. Kudos to you, my friend. My king room was large, fresh, and spotless, with lots of space. The bathroom was very clean and there was plenty of hot water and ice. Check-in went smoothly, with a gift bag, water, and extra smiles. There was also a coffee maker and coffee, a large fridge, microwave, large TV, and channels that worked. The cleaning staff were professional and deserve credit alongside the front desk and manager. It was good to have a clean, safe place to rest while exploring the area. I spent time in nearby Tryon, about a 20-minute drive on the interstate. For events there, this would be the best place to stay, since there isn't anything this updated in that historic town. I had no trouble getting back early to a clean room to rest.

The only thing I'd change is the exercise room. It needs two new treadmills, or at least maintenance, and a new TV remote. The machines are very worn: one slows a little with every step, and the one on the left isn't usable because its belt slides forward even at walking speed. The pool looked nice, but we didn't use it. Otherwise, we had a very comfortable, clean, affordable stay. Our spacious room was exceptionally clean, perhaps the cleanest motel room I've stayed in, and the water pressure was amazing. Our pet-friendly room had faux-wood plank floors, which I much prefer to carpet since carpet is so hard to clean thoroughly. The pet fee was reasonable and lower than at other motels we considered. Staff were incredibly nice and attentive. Breakfast had plenty of choices, including cereal, oatmeal, waffles, eggs, yogurt, toast, bagels, and more. I highly recommend this motel.
The upstairs room was much quieter and more inviting, and just a lot better overall. The first room I got was on the ground floor facing the parking lot and a bright, noisy gas station. I could hear a lot of outside noise as well as footsteps stomping overhead, and the room smelled really dank. I wouldn't have wanted to pay anything for that room. The front desk agent, Danica?, was very nice when I explained that I'd have to find somewhere else to stay if I couldn't move. She got me into the upstairs room. The Wi-Fi was down during my stay, which was a bummer.
I had a terrible experience with management and the front desk. Check-in took an hour at 1 a.m., when they weren't busy, and although my room was prepaid, they charged me another $155.01. When I asked about it, they said it had been refunded, but then charged my card again. Rhema, the manager, called it a system glitch, but that might explain one charge, not two. Jessica said Nick, another manager, would be in before we checked out and gave me a time. He never came. I was then told he'd be in Monday, but he wasn't, so I had to call corporate. Rhema was awful to deal with. I have a recording of her calling me a liar after I said her representative had told me the refund would take two days. She replied that it was my word against hers. We had breakfast once during our stay. Staff started putting things away, sweeping, and stacking chairs before breakfast had ended, while we were still eating. I'm still waiting for the refunds. Good luck staying here if you want money taken from your account with no accountability.
The room was roomy, the hotel was clean, and the bed was comfortable. But the walls are paper-thin, so you can hear absolutely everything. There's also music playing from a speaker at the front of the hotel, which you hear if your room faces the entrance. If you want a quiet night's sleep, this isn't the place for you.
