Wingate by Wyndham Fletcher at Asheville Airport

The bedding had stains, the clock was broken, and the water looked like the picture. We also stayed for the hot tub, but it was out of order, and the pool was around 60 degrees. During swim lessons, the instructor even said it was too cold to get in. Before arriving, I called to arrange the airport shuttle and ask about parking while we were away. They said to handle the shuttle at check-in and that parking would be no problem. At the desk, we couldn’t get the shuttle time we needed, and they wouldn’t arrange one. They offered a ride 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after, despite the website saying shuttles run every 30 minutes. Then they charged $10 a day for parking. I asked to speak to the manager, but the desk said I could email her and told me to find another hotel. When I said I’d called earlier, they claimed I had the wrong number. I showed them the call on my phone and they said it was a third party. I called it again and the phone rang at the desk. The clerk tried not to answer, but eventually did and realized it was me. Now we have to get to the airport and pay for parking as well as the hotel. Don’t stay here. We live in Asheville and booked because of an early flight.

My director with American Airlines assigned me to Wingate by Wyndham Fletcher at Asheville Airport after my flight was cancelled. It wasn’t my first choice, but the stay turned out solid. The location is very convenient for the airport, and the rooms, beds, and bathrooms were clean and well kept. They had breakfast, an indoor pool, and a gym, which made the unexpected night more comfortable. The front desk host and the morning breakfast staff were both friendly and courteous. A reliable choice if you need somewhere near the airport.

Breakfast was a letdown: the bagels were stale, the coffee weak, and the juice and water dispenser was broken. We also found out only after checking in that the cable was out, so there was no TV or way to stream anything. The room was clean, and the front desk staff were friendly, but neither available room had an air conditioner that cooled. We tried lowering the thermostat in the first room, then moved to the only other one, directly below it, and still spent the night at 75 degrees. The windows wouldn't open to let in cooler air, and the room looked out over the indoor pool. We picked this hotel because it was close to Sierra Nevada Brewery, and it's also very close to the airport. I don't plan to stay again.

Snow and road closures made it hard to get to my home, and as a teacher I needed a room so I could get to work. I asked Booking.com to move my check-in to the second night of my four-night reservation. I was prepared to lose the first night's payment; I only wanted the check-in date changed. Booking.com called and emailed the local office to approve it, but the agent at the Asheville hotel wouldn't work with me and was unprofessional. They said they couldn't get Booking.com's email because the manager had left for the day and they had no email, then told me they'd cancel the reservation. I tried contacting the corporate office and hoped to forward the email, and also attempted a conference call with corporate and Booking, but neither got it resolved. Wyndham ended up cancelling the reservation. If Wyndham takes bookings through third-party agents, it should have a way to handle a simple request like checking in later. I was extremely disappointed by how they handled it, and they've lost my business. I can't see myself booking with them again.
