Home2 Suites by Hilton Florence, SC

After a long drive, the room layout is especially welcome. There's a sofa area and a kitchen with a full-sized fridge and freezer, so we have plenty of room. We absolutely LOVE Home2Suites, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. We particularly like staying in Florence and Brunswick, both right off I-95 and incredible locations.

The room did have a refrigerator/freezer and dishwasher, but it wasn't as bright or cheerful as the Home2 motel we stayed at in Florida, and this one definitely wasn't as nice. The bathroom was dirty: the counter and towels were filthy, the sink drain was clogged, and three of the four pillowcases and the top blanket were stained or dirty. The body wash bottle had come off the wall and had just been left on the shower shelf with its block and sharp screws, which dug into our hands as we tried to use it. At check-in, I asked whether they give discounts to first responders. The desk person just looked at me and shook her head no without answering, and I felt like we were bothering her. At checkout, she didn't ask how the stay was. I told her about the problems, but she made no effort to make things right.

The next day, over $400 was taken from our account. When we called the hotel that day, the response was dismissive and evasive: “this has nothing to do with us.” I’m not saying staff charged the card themselves, but weak protocols, exposed systems, and no oversight seem to have enabled the fraud. A Hilton-branded hotel should protect guests and support them after a security breach, not brush them off. The trouble started at 6:30 AM, when a call came straight to our room demanding payment for a fee the hotel said it had forgotten to charge. They insisted we provide a card number over the room phone immediately. We trusted the call because it came through the hotel's internal phone system, and we were exhausted with an eight-hour drive ahead. This was unacceptable and deeply concerning. For a hotel with the Hilton name, the carelessness is unbelievable. Never staying here again. Not recommended. Hilton needs to seriously investigate this property's security practices, if any exist at all.

The location was very convenient, and both the hotel and room were fine. Breakfast, though, was probably the worst I've had at a hotel. There were no eggs when I went, and the orange juice was awful, so I threw it away. By the time my husband arrived, they were out of coffee, and it still hadn't been refilled when he checked again.
