The manager took our car situation seriously after we told her it had been broken into in Albuquerque. She put us in a corner room with a window facing the car and a security camera pointed at it overnight. We paid $85 for me, my sister, and our cat and dog, which felt reasonable, and the hotel was comfortable and much cleaner than the fancier place in Albuquerque. The sign still says Bunk House Hotel. The manager said the owner had tried twice to get it changed, but the people who came to measure never came back, so she joked they might as well change it back to Bunk House. It's an older place, probably from the 80s, and the carpet was badly stained and due for an upgrade. The toilet and shower were green, too. But the sheets were clean, the pillows fluffy, the beds comfortable, and the shower water hot. The room warmed up really quickly, so we turned off the heat, and it stayed warm until morning.

We ate breakfast at Ray Ray’s across the street, and it was good. The menu looked like it had reasonably priced home-style food all day, and one afternoon we also tried Curbside, a food truck that sometimes parks there. We'd stay here again. We had two king rooms for one weekday night in August. It's an older inn, but perfectly acceptable for the reasonable price. The rooms and linens were clean and well kept, though the bedspreads were a little worn. The hostess mentioned at check-in that one room's area rug had been shampooed but still had some stains, and they planned to replace it soon. The beds and pillows were comfortable enough. Each room had Wi-Fi, a small fridge with freezer, microwave, good AC, a newer flat-screen cable TV, a small table and chair, a lamp on the nightstand, outlets on both sides of the bed, a chest of drawers, a closet, and a bathtub with an overhead shower. Check-in and checkout were easy with the friendly, accommodating hostess. When we asked to stay a little past the stated checkout time in one room, she arranged it.

We left before our stay was over. The room was unbelievably tiny, and the door hit the first bed when opened. There was a bathroom sign saying not to flush toilet paper, with a $20 charge per day for each incident. The carpeted floor was extremely moldy. The office didn't open until 9 a.m. At the Super 8 in Plainview, we paid the same amount for a room two and a half times bigger.

The manager was very nice and the place was clean, but the AC didn't work well until after dark, so we were sweating until then. We couldn't stay for the two nights we'd planned. The manager said the owner wouldn't let him refund the second night, so we lost the money we'd paid for it.

The laundry machines were broken, so we had to drive 30 minutes to wash our clothes. The room we started in was dirty and had no working AC, even though we had a one-year-old with us. We were told it would take a few hours, but after three hours we called the desk. The man argued that it was fine and that we should wait longer. When he finally came to the room, he said it felt cool to him and kept insisting there was no problem. He eventually moved us to another room, but that one had holes in the drywall, the drywall over the shower was torn up and ruined, and the carpet was filthy and stained with trash stuck in it. This was hands down the worst place I've ever stayed. I'd rather sleep in a tent than go back.
