Comfort Inn Fond Du Lac

The staff were kind and helpful, but the hotel itself was a dump. The bathtub was clogged, the exhaust fan didn’t work, the furniture was old, and the room, walls, and carpet were dirty. Even the towels, though washed, were stained, and there was body soap. The website photos are completely misleading.

Judy was very pleasant when we dealt with her during the day, and breakfast itself was fine. Those were about the only good parts of the stay. The hotel felt like an old motel with a poor remodel: there was old food stuck to the checkout counter, the paint was mediocre, the walls were dirty, and a window was broken. At breakfast, all the tables were still covered in crumbs and syrup near the end of the four-hour service period. From 7 to 11 a.m., housekeeping played loud music, sang, and yelled back and forth while cleaning. There’s a food pantry right behind the hotel, and we saw homeless people come in to eat lobby food and drinks and use the pool and showers. The woman who checked us in on the night shift was kind, but didn’t notice us waiting for several minutes and then entered our payment incorrectly, so we had to return the next day to fix it. I rarely write reviews, but this stay was bad enough that I wanted others to know not to expect much.

Seeing cockroaches is enough for me to know I don’t want to stay here. The room also had very dated, heavily used furniture and cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. Why isn’t the cleaning crew getting those down? It makes you wonder how clean the rest of the room really is.

The location works for us when we visit family, and check-in was easy and friendly. We’ve stayed here twice, but may try somewhere else next time. We travel a lot and have used plenty of Comfort Inns, so it’s a shame. The worst part was breakfast at 9 a.m. Every morning, employees were eating there, and on this visit I counted ten. The food was gone, and it was so loud with everyone talking over one another in their language. I understand they need a break, but they’d only just started, and there should be a break room. Paying guests shouldn’t be left without food. I guess you have to be an early bird here. Our room had very dirty, stained carpet and chairs, a toilet that was black inside, apparently from hard water, and lamp shades that were bent or cracked. Housekeeping also started early, yelling down the halls and letting doors slam.
