Holiday Inn Express Knadle Hall

The building’s age shows in the leaks, humidity, thin insulation, and the light that slips under the doors from the hallway. I used a towel to block it, since the hallway lights stayed bright at night. Classmates mentioned AC and plumbing trouble, though I didn’t run into either myself. The cable also sounds unreliable from what I heard, and there’s no pool. For my 58-night FA57 course stay, though, the location near the schoolhouse was convenient and the accommodations worked out fine for the summer. The staff were a real plus. They put on a weekly social dinner, kept breakfast going, handled maintenance requests quickly, and housekeeping did a great job twice a week. The kitchenette was useful and reasonably stocked, with a full-size fridge, stovetop, and microwave, but no oven. The bed was comfortable; the pillows weren’t great, so I was glad I brought my own for a long stay. Internet worked pretty well, and they provide an HDMI cable for the TV. There are about 10 washers and 10 dryers in the large laundry room. The gym was set up nicely and usually empty. The rooms weren’t especially well insulated, so I could hear neighbors, but mine were respectful and quiet most of the time.

Breakfast was a bright spot for my in-laws, served in a well-lit basement room with big panoramic windows. It was the usual complimentary IHG breakfast, and they were quite happy with it. The hotel is tucked among trees, the entrance and outside areas looked clean and inviting, and the location was very convenient. I hadn’t realized this IHG was a VOQ, or visiting officers quarters, used as temporary housing for single officers and married officers arriving unaccompanied for duty. It has been renovated, but some signs of the original building remain, including a stained, cracked area of wall near the room. One elevator door was out of order. The room itself was just okay, though it seemed satisfactory and had no problems. We’d booked it thinking it would be ideal for my in-laws, but in the end we weren’t very satisfied and decided to book them into the other hotel on base.

The room was okay, and check-in went smoothly. But on both of my stays it felt stuffy inside, and it could use a dehumidifier. I couldn’t adjust the AC unit. The cable was pretty poor too, with more than half the channels failing to work and “no signal” messages popping up. Breakfast was standard continental fare, nothing special, but decent.

The lodging itself is fine, though it’s nothing fancy, and the location is convenient. Breakfast is great, and laundry is free. What stood out most was the front desk staff: they’re consistently helpful and really try to accommodate guests. My reservation through official orders wasn’t showing up, but they worked hard to make it work.
