A month after checkout, they charged my card $200 for damage. When I called, they said I had clogged the toilet and it took two weeks to clear, then claimed they were going to charge me $500. After an extended stay, that was the last straw. The place felt badly outdated despite the claim that my room had just been remodeled. I was told the oven was brand new, but it was covered inside with dried fire extinguisher foam and looked about 25 years old. The surfaces were crusted with all kinds of colorful grime, and I thought some of it might be blood. I cleaned the whole room myself because it was clear early on that requests weren't taken seriously. When I asked for a garbage can, I was told the tiny one gallon bin by the toilet was all they had, even though the room had a full kitchen. The laundry room was open to the public, and its washers and dryers were disgusting. The entrance locks barely worked, and getting in sometimes meant wiggling the key for ages. The room key was the same. None of that seemed like a huge deal at the time, but the later charge was. If you're thinking of staying here, try the other place in Fort Garland, sleep in your car, or keep going to the next town. Good luck.

Those mountain views are breathtaking, and the rooms were extremely clean. The staff were super friendly too. Such an amazing hotel, I'd absolutely stay here again.

Everything else was great in the tiny town of Fort Garland. Angelica made check-in easy, and the rooms were clean. I'd have given the hotel five stars, except it could use some modern updates, like key card entry and USB charging in the rooms. That's why it's four stars.

We left an item in our room, and the staff went out of their way to ship it back to us. The rooms were clean, the staff were super great, and the location is very convenient for visiting the dunes. It's a great little hotel, and it's veteran owned. Can't recommend it enough!

The walls are thin, as you'd expect in an older motel, so you'll know when you have neighbors next door. Otherwise, this was a clean, well maintained older place. The staff were professional and answered all our questions. The room looked recently remodeled, and all the fixtures worked properly.
