The old 1970s phone gave me a laugh, but the rest of the room was in rough shape. The carpet was so dirty I kept my flip-flops on, the sink barely seemed attached to the wall, and the bathroom windows wouldn't close. There were just two towels, and I found blood stains on the comforter. I didn't spot any bugs, though I was honestly afraid to check. I should've read the reviews and skipped this place. I've never paid over $100 for a hotel this run-down. I come to Ft. Lauderdale often, but I won't be back. Live and learn.

We gave up on staying there after finding a cracked window, a curtain that missed about two feet of it, and a door with no safety chain or auto-lock that opened outward. When I slammed it to get it shut, flakes of paint, dust, and mold fell on my head. The place had black mold, peeling paint, and light fixtures stuffed with aluminum foil. The night clerk was nasty. We arrived to find the office locked for 30 minutes with no note about whether anyone would return. When we said we weren't staying and asked for a refund, she said we'd have to go through a third party. I filed a report with the Florida Health Department because nobody should be staying there in its current condition. We saw a lot of four-star reviews while searching, but now suspect Avalon Waterfront wrote them itself.

Don't waste your time looking at this hotel. The room had an infestation of bugs, and when I reported it at the front desk, three buildings up the block, staff came over and claimed they saw nothing, even though the bugs were clearly there. Check-in alone took me 45 minutes with only three parties ahead of me. There isn't free Wi-Fi or parking, and the ceilings were cracked, the paint was poor, and the walls so thin you could hear everything. It was horrible. Please spring for a better hotel.

I had booked a room with two double beds, but was given one king instead. The night staff were surly, rude, and uninterested. The air conditioner drain leaked onto a carpet so stained, threadbare, and filthy I wouldn't have wanted it lining a dog cage. I expected only a clean place to sleep and shower on a multi-state drive, but the room was too dirty for either. After a 20-hour drive and a 24-hour event, I was exhausted, so I stayed less than four hours, left my suitcase out of the room, and headed off as soon as I could safely drive. I've stayed in plenty of cheap motels. They're usually clean, keep up basic maintenance, and at least make an effort at customer service. The Avalon did none of that. I'll contact my credit card company and suggest they stop letting customers use reward points to book here.

We paid $165 a night online for a "traditional room," but the place we were assigned looked nothing like the website photos. It was musty and filthy, with furniture and appliances that all seemed at least 30 years old. The sheets had a brownish-yellow cast, and when we pulled them back, there were ants in the bed. We left right away. I've stayed in plenty of hotels and motels, mostly ordinary places and sometimes a quirky one when there was no other choice. I've never seen a room this disgusting. Do not stay here.
