We had a comfortable, spacious room, and the mattress and soft linens made for a great night’s sleep. Our #14 King Studio had a full kitchen with a full-sized fridge, oven, stove, and microwave. The bathroom was basic, but there was lotion, shampoo, and bar soap. You can also use umbrellas, sunscreen and after-sun products, chilled bottled water, ice, and beach chairs without bringing or buying them. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly: Tom, Jim, Lloyd, owner Dave, and their lovable Amazon parrot, “Peanut.” They serve a light breakfast of coffee, pastries, juice, and water. On Fridays and Saturdays, there’s a free drinks and cocktails happy hour from 5 to 6, which was a fun way to hang out by the pool and meet other guys. This was our first visit, after friends who’ve stayed for years talked us into trying it. We came to relax, meet people, and take it easy, and ended up making a lot of new friends. The hot water heater failed on the first day and had to be replaced on day three, but they fixed things quickly and it barely affected us. We loved The Big Coconut and will definitely be back. They made our vacation extra special.

I enjoyed chatting with the other guests around the patio or pool, then heading off to do my own thing. You can socialize or have privacy. There’s a continental breakfast in the morning and happy hour on Friday and Saturday early evenings. The place has just two floors and around 16 rooms around a landscaped courtyard, which gives it the feel of old Fort Lauderdale before overdevelopment. It’s calm and relaxing, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it welcomes people of different ages and body types. If you’re after a sleek modern high-rise, this may not suit you. For a friendly, laid-back retreat, it’s worth a look. It’s centrally located for exploring Fort Lauderdale and has good parking. Thanks to the friendly people who work and stay here!

Our first visit was such a good one that we’ll definitely come back. The staff went the extra mile, and we enjoyed meeting other guests. The pool was clean and heated, and there’s a Publix just around the corner. Our room was large, clean, and fully stocked. Breakfast and the daily happy hour were included, and parking right out front was easy. There’s also a gated entrance with a key for extra security, and Wilton Manors is a quick Uber ride away. Lots of amenities included, and we loved our stay.

The Little Coconut was smaller than the Big Coconut, but cozy and really nice. The whole place had a relaxed feel, the guests were kind, and I didn’t want to leave. Tom, Jim, and Lloyd were some of the nicest and funniest people I’ve met in ages. And Peanut, that special little bird, I’m sorry I missed you before leaving, but I’ll see you soon, beautiful! I came to Fort Lauderdale for New Year’s Eve, a vacation, and my birthday. The trip didn’t start as planned, but the staff went above and beyond and turned it around on my birthday. Thanks for making it so memorable. I’ll definitely be back and recommend it to anyone looking for a vacation spot. The Little Coconut was just as relaxing as the Big Coconut. ❤️

For a low-key, men-only, clothing-optional stay, I’d recommend The Big Coconut. The staff were kind and helpful, the compact courtyard and pool were very well looked after, and most of the other guests were friendly. We had a great first visit to Fort Lauderdale. The main drawback is the neighborhood isn’t very walkable. It’s about 1-2 miles to the center of the gayborhood, and nearby dining is limited. There’s a Publix grocery store a block away.
