Ocean Sky Hotel and Resort

The dirty room really put a damper on our vacation, and I wouldn’t stay here again. The floors always felt grimy, and we didn’t want to walk barefoot. Bedding was a repeated problem too. In the morning we found what looked like blood or brown marks, along with yellow stains, on the underside of the comforter. When we asked for clean bedding, housekeeping removed everything and we saw stains on the mattress cover as well. They first planned to put fresh sheets over it, so we asked them to change the cover. After doing that, they tried to put the same stained comforter back, and we had to ask again for a clean one. On another morning we requested fresh towels, but there were none when we returned that evening, so we had to ask again. Breakfast was $19 a plate and far too small. My boyfriend got one tiny slice of French toast, an egg, and three small link sausages, then had to get breakfast somewhere else. We never ate there again and went next door to the Ocean Manor, which was much better. The Tiki Bar drinks were expensive and weak. The pool was decent, but the walls were thin, and people opening doors woke us during the night. At check-in, the front desk staff were very nice. We arrived late, picked up food from a late-night pizza place, and went to bed without checking the bedding. It looked clean at first.

We’d happily come back. From check-in through checkout, the staff were wonderful, and the price felt just right for a getaway. It’s right on the beach, with an Ocean Sky view and parking on the property. The rooms were clean, and the gift shop was reasonably priced. We had good food at the restaurant, and Natacha was absolutely lovely. Staff even served us on the beach. The pool and hot tub worked great, and the poolside bar made excellent frozen drinks. Food and drinks seemed priced like anywhere else, so I don’t really understand some of the negative reviews. I especially liked the service light on the housekeepers’ doorbell, so we could signal when we wanted the room cleaned. It made things easier for us and for them.

The employees were all amazing, especially the male afternoon manager and the young woman at the front desk. We did move to the Oceanside Hotel the very next night, though. Please don’t confuse it with this place. Our room wasn’t clean at all. There was hair everywhere, dust remained in the room, and the corners hadn’t been cleaned. The balcony chairs were dirty, and there was no privacy out there because I could see into the adjoining rooms. There also isn’t much to do right around the hotel. It’s about 5-7 miles north of the main area along the ocean. Seaweed covered the beach, including a strip about 3 feet wide that you had to step over to reach the water, and more seaweed was in the ocean. The beach farther south had none. It made me think the local hotels may not want to pay to have the beach cleaned, even though they charge the same as hotels to the south. Don’t be fooled by the pictures.

We spent Christmas here and had a lovely holiday. André welcomed us with a smile and was very helpful and kind. I believe he’s the front desk manager. He made sure we had a lovely room with a beautiful view and was always around when we had questions. The front desk team were also great, always greeting us and wishing us a happy Christmas. Our flight was late, so they let us keep the room for a couple of extra hours at no charge. That made our last day more relaxing, and we’ll definitely return. My only suggestion is for housekeeping to speak a little more quietly, since they tend to be loud. Still, five stars. Thank you, André. We’ll be back.
