Lovers Key Resort by Distinctive Beach Rentals

The staff were friendly and helpful. The units are basic, with a small oven, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator, and dishwasher, plus a small living room. There’s a TV in both the living room and bedroom. The bathroom is a decent size, with one sink and a good, powerful shower. The location is central for Fort Meyers Beach and Bonita Beach. Parking nearby is limited, and Flippers restaurant takes up spaces. The pool sits on the shaded side of the building, so it’s not great.

Our AC never worked during the trip. It was 85 degrees the whole time, so the room was useless during the day. When I went to the front desk, the staff were extremely rude and said there was nothing they could do because they were sold out. At checkout I raised it again and was told to email the GM. I did, and the GM said they would refund two nights. But when my booking agency contacted him, he lied and refused the refund. Brian is terrible at customer service, and that explains the rest of the hotel staff too. Do NOT stay here.

The room was fair and fully equipped, though the kitchen had very little counter space. The bed and couch were uncomfortable, the window coverings were cheap, and the AC and heat were noisy. We booked late and got room 102, which wasn’t desirable: a construction barge blocked part of the bay view, and pool heaters sat just outside the bedroom window. The lobby staff were great. Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived, so we waited at Flippers; it was ready around 4:15. We came early to check in because we’d heard parking could be a problem, with construction equipment and Flippers taking up space. The lot filled as the afternoon went on. We stayed two nights, though one probably would have been better. I probably wouldn’t return. You have to drive to the trolley for FMB and the state park, and with no sidewalk, walking didn’t feel safe, so the area felt isolated. The highway bridge construction also made the driveway hard to access at times, especially coming from FMB.

The room was decent and clean, but the final price didn’t match the quote. They also charged a $60 cleaning fee that hadn’t been disclosed. We’ll stay somewhere else next time.
