Super 8 by Wyndham Fort Scott

The customer service was awful. I’d booked a pet friendly room and had two small dogs along with a trained service dog. At check-in, the receptionist snapped that no motel would accept that and that they had no pet friendly beds left. I said one of my dogs would be more comfortable in the car anyway, so I could leave the two dogs there. Suddenly, a two queen room became available. By then, I was already upset about the attitude, but said fine. When he tried to charge me, my card was declined. I called my husband, and I had more than the amount I was booked for in my account. The man said “declined” sharply. I told him that couldn’t be right, and with my husband listening on the phone, he said something like “here you freaking try.” I tried again and the card was declined again. He wouldn’t tell me the charge amount, even after I showed him the balance twice. I asked to speak with a manager. He scoffed and said yes, then paused and told me he was the manager. I said that was convenient, this was ridiculous, and I’d take my business elsewhere. I went somewhere else, paid a little more than I would have at Super 8, and had much friendlier staff. The same card worked there less than ten minutes later. This place needs better training in hospitality, management, and polite customer service.

The motel is close to the historical museum, and the service was very good. Breakfast had pancakes, muffins, honey buns, milk, cereal, and two kinds of juice. The new furniture and mattresses were comfortable, and I really enjoyed my stay.

It’s an older place, but it was very clean and quiet, and felt kid friendly. The beds were brand new and comfortable. Breakfast was a bit better than at many newer, fancier motels, and the price was very affordable. I’ll be back.

I found lower prices online through several sites, including Expedia and Travelocity, but they wouldn’t honor them and wanted to charge me over $30 more than advertised. The place was nasty and smelled bad, and even the lobby wasn’t clean. When we changed our minds, they didn’t want to refund my money. I wouldn’t recommend it at all.
