Island Houseboat

The location was great, close to the beach and entertainment, and since it was my birthday I tried to make the best of it. But the stay had the feel of the Bates Motel. The boat house looked like it needed many exterior repairs, and inside it was extremely outdated, with shabby furnishings that seemed questionably clean. There was a pungent smell I tried to get rid of with disinfectant, and the rugs were dusty and unclean. The thin bedding seemed to have sand on it even though we hadn't been to the beach or gotten into bed. Old chicken bones were on the upper deck, which seemed to have been patched with thin tape and felt like a dangerous hazard. It was dark, and most of the lights didn't work. The shower was so unsanitary-looking that we had to use a friend's house to shower. The toilet was in the bedroom, with almost no privacy or separation. We arrived a few hours early and contacted management to ask about checking in, but they said housekeeping wasn't finished and we couldn't get in early.
