Extended Stay America Suites Fort Wayne South

The room we first entered had a muddy puddle on the floor and one broken bed. When I told the desk clerk, she offered to clean it up quickly, but I didn’t want to stay in a room that hadn’t been cleaned. We moved rooms, but both the hallway and new room smelled terrible. The floors were dirty, paint was peeling, cabinets were stained, and the bathroom had bugs and grime around the faucet. It felt like rock bottom, not a vacation. I couldn’t upload my photos. For one night I paid $165 even though it was advertised at $65, plus a $100 deposit, so $265 total for a filthy stay. The payment was non-refundable.

The bed was comfortable and I slept well, though I tried not to wonder whether the sheets and pillowcases had been washed. I’ve stayed at Extended Stay America hotels many times, but this first visit to the Fort Wayne Southwest location was disappointing. The price was good and the staff were nice, but the room was poorly cleaned and in bad repair. They said the hotel was sold out, so I couldn’t switch rooms. The tub was stained, the faucet was pulling away from the wall, and water ran constantly. Staff knew about the stains and leak, and said the marks wouldn’t come out. I had to shut the bathroom door to sleep through the noise. On my first, very short shower, dark, short, curly hairs came from the drain area into the tub. They weren’t mine: my hair is light brown, shoulder length, fine, and barely wavy, and I was the only guest in the room. I didn’t see any more after that shower, so they must have gone down the drain. There was a smeared substance on the refrigerator and freezer doors, maybe pasta sauce or another sauce with little bits of parsley. I used a towel to open them so I wouldn’t have to touch it. The furniture laminate was chipped, the shower curtain was dirty, and the metal rod was rusty. Extended Stay America may once have been a nice hotel, but this one has clearly seen better days.

I booked two rooms for September 13 through the 15th and checked in at 3 PM. The rooms were filthy, with hair in the bathroom, sink, and kitchen. The shower head didn’t work, and the sheets had spots on them. After about 15 minutes, I went to the desk to report the condition. Dawn said I couldn’t get a refund because I’d been in the room for 45 minutes, which wasn’t true. Our things were still in the car and we hadn’t brought everything inside. I still haven’t received the money back for the two rooms. Don later said that because I booked through a third party, I could get my deposit back but not the room payment. I paid almost $200, not including the deposit, and altogether about $350. I’ve spoken with several managers and keep getting the runaround. Dawn was rude and said there was nothing she could do and I absolutely wouldn’t get my money back. They didn’t offer a clean room. I don’t recommend this place. They won’t refund me, and I rate it zero out of five.

We checked out the morning after arriving because the rooms were extremely dirty. We found no utensils, pots, pans, dishes, or cups, and nobody had told us to ask for them. There was only a bar of soap at the sink and one on the rub, and both ironing boards were broken. Breakfast was just pots of coffee and packaged muffins. The floors needed mopping, and the air conditioner, oven, and elevator needed cleaning too. It felt like cheap motel service at regular hotel prices, the worst paid hotel stay I’ve had, and I felt cheated. I had originally reserved three rooms at Fort Wayne North. The day before, someone called because they were overbooked and asked if I really needed all three. I said yes and offered to pay in advance if needed; she said no, but would call back. Instead, they moved the reservation to Fort Wayne South, where rooms were available. I agreed and confirmed by phone that we needed three days and would arrive late. We checked in as planned. I’ve stayed at Extended Stay many times, but this one was unacceptable. We went to a Tru by Hilton the next day. The same price as other locations felt unjustified, and Extended Stay has lost a longtime customer.
