There are some really nice security guards and workers here, but others try way too hard to ruin the experience. After paying thousands to stay, having bags checked and being told you can't bring in water or Sour Patch Kids is excessive. It might be understandable if beer were reasonably priced, but it's $11 to $14 a can, higher than Disney. Windsor Hills down the road has much more affordable beer. Windsor Island's prices are absolutely atrocious, and for me that means I won't come back. They police everything, from how fast you go down a slide where you can barely move and need to be going fast, to refusing 60-cent pieces of candy. It's obnoxious. The place has so much potential but fails in so many areas.
We rented a house in Windsor Island and used the resort amenities on our arrival day. Check-in was very difficult. We got there at 11 PM and still had to queue. After checking in the first night, you can use the member line afterward, but that line can get very long too. The pool and clubhouse were nice extras. The pool got busy early, then was calm and nice in the evenings. My teenage boys used the gym and game room. Some things weren't working, but it was great that they had a place to hang out. Traffic took us over an hour to reach the Universal parks, and one night it took more than two. This isn't a good area to stay if you're going to those parks. There are one-lane roads into the area, so any backup leaves you stuck.
The house at 3811 Lana Ave was clean, modern, and packed with things for kids. We loved the heated pool, theater room, PS5, and other amenities, and had a really good time inside the house. Getting in and out of Windsor was the part that made the stay frustrating. Traffic could be so bad that it made us want to stay put. After a quick store run, we waited 30 minutes just to get back into the resort. The video shows a long queue coming in from one direction, with a similar line from the other side. Holiday traffic may be part of it, but checking in new guests while they’re still in their cars at the same entrance as returning guests seems inefficient and creates extra congestion. I heard there might be another resort entrance, but there’s no sign for it. At minimum, re-entry guests need to be directed there. I’m surprised this setup hasn’t raised concerns with local traffic control. The delays were extremely frustrating and, in my opinion, unacceptable. They took a lot away from an otherwise enjoyable stay.
After weeks of looking for another good resort, my family and I decided to return to Windsor. We vacationed here in Florida last year, and it was just right for us. The apartments are close to the resort itself, and everything was clean. If you want somewhere to stay quietly for a few days, this is a good option to keep in mind.
The place is well maintained and really good. The downside is the security process: if your photos haven't been checked in ahead of time, you can't get inside. Make sure you've been entered into their system beforehand, and don't forget your driver's license. It's mandatory.
