The layout keeps the whole course open in front of you, which made it a fun place to play. Conditions were excellent too: the greens rolled perfectly, the fairways were in great shape when I found them, and the bunkers were well cared for with plenty of sand. I had a great round. If you're in the area and want a public course that welcomes visitors, this is a great one to try.

The course has a personality that makes me want another round. The elevation changes and perched greens stand out, and the greens can be beautiful and downright evil at the same time. We played Friday, March 6, and had a good round that moved along well. Staff were good, and both greens and fairways looked very nice.

The staff even met us at the end of the round and cleaned our clubs, a great finishing touch. My buddies and I will be back. I’ve played six rounds at Highlands Reserve Golf Club over the last three years and haven’t been disappointed. The team greets you warmly in the morning, and the pro shop staff are friendly and professional. There’s a nice mix of holes, so the layout stays interesting throughout. The tees were pristine, fairways in excellent shape, and the greens fast with good undulation. In winter, I’d spend time on the driving range, chipping green, and putting green before playing. If you miss the fairway and end up in the dormant winter grass, you’ll need to adjust your strike and swing to control the ball and reach your targets. As a Canadian, the exchange rate makes it a little pricey for me, but the experience is worth it. Whenever I’m back in Davenport, this is a must-play course. A round here is fun, and you can make it as challenging as you like with the different tee boxes. We’ve been coming to Highlands Reserve for well over 20 years, and whenever my friends, family, and I want to play a little farther from home, it’s usually near the top of our list. We live in Lakeland. The value is good, though it’s far from the cheapest course, and the staff are kind. The unusual topography is another draw, and the fairways and bunkers are well maintained. The greens are almost always pristine. The quirky part is what we call the “Swamp Effect.” The Green Swamp is apparently in the distance, and it seems to affect putts in ways that can be hard to imagine. Breaks go in unexpected directions, and the speed is affected too. Visitors can be thrown by it. It takes a while to get used to, so until you figure it out, expect to add three or four strokes to your normal score. If you’re in Central Florida, visiting or living there, Highlands Reserve Golf Club offers an enjoyable, challenging day on a reasonably priced, well kept course.

We finished in just under four hours despite the course being full, so the pace was great. The service was great too, from the person meeting us with carts in the parking lot to check-in, the starters and rangers, and the staff waiting there again when we finished. I played Highlands Reserve on Friday, January 30, 2026. I haven’t played much Florida golf and wasn’t sure what to expect. The price seemed good, I guess, at $119. Tees and greens were phenomenal. The fairways were very green but cut so low it felt like hitting off hardpan. The rough was poor: dormant, which I believe is expected in winter, but with very little actual grass.
