Residence Inn by Marriott Foxborough

The pool had clearly been closed for the season and never reopened, even though the hotel markets pool access as an amenity. No one mentioned that when we booked or checked in. Housekeeping was another problem. Nobody asked our preference at check-in, and we later learned daily service requires opting in, which had never been explained. Even after several requests, the room was never properly serviced. We got fresh towels once, and that was the only response during the stay. Even the door hangers showed the same lack of care. Both sides had some variation of “do not disturb,” so there was no way to request service with the sign. This was a really disappointing stay, mainly because of the lack of basic room service and misleading information. It feels like a franchise owner is cutting corners at guests’ expense and hurting the Marriott brand. I’d look at other options nearby.

Convenient spot near chains like Starbucks and Cava, with free parking. The basic breakfast was nothing special, and the room was pricey, about $600 for two winter nights without a Gillette event. The shower pressure was weak because the bath faucet wouldn’t switch over to the shower head during my stay. The cleaning staff were nice, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

We needed a quiet place to sleep before Sunday’s game, and this worked well. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the staff, location and property were all great.

The front desk staff were super friendly, and the hotel is in a lovely neighborhood with beautiful grounds, flowers and trees. It’s close to highways, shops and restaurants, has ample parking, and felt safe next to some kind of police facility. I also liked the self-serve food and snack section, one of the best I’ve seen in a hotel, with frozen meals, ice cream, ramen, candy and chips for when you’re in a pinch. But Foxborough didn’t come close to the standard set by Residence Inn Nashua, where I stayed before. There was a sign saying the hotel was under construction, but I didn’t see any construction workers, and the problems seemed deeply rooted. The sign felt like an excuse. The hotel just didn’t smell fresh. Some floors had a musty, wet, moldy odor. We were there two nights, and I had to move from our initial second-floor room because I couldn’t imagine walking through that smell to get to the room. The rooms are dark, with old, dented appliances, though they were clean. The shower pressure was very poor, and it took ages to wash my hair. There was brown grime in the shower stall corners that needs a professional deep clean. The floors need power washing too, my socks got dirty and I couldn’t walk barefoot. The pullout couch looked like it might be from the ’70s and had some kind of vinyl covering. The windows were filthy. When I went to look at the morning sunshine, there was a huge active wasp nest right in the window, about the size of three footballs. I can’t imagine that room is ever rented, and don’t know how anyone missed it. The beds were uncomfortable, maybe the mattresses need updating. The staff laundry door was wide open, with sheets and towels piled high. It didn’t look like there were enough staff for the workload.
