The location is the best part. The lift bus stops right outside Twin Rivers Condominiums, which is especially convenient for winter activities. The condo was okay as a place to sleep, but it didn’t make for a very relaxing stay. We were in a three-bedroom unit. Only the living room and master bedroom had TVs. There was one in the game room, but it was hooked up only to a DVD player, and we hadn’t brought DVDs. The other two bedrooms had no TVs, which was disappointing since watching TV in the evening is part of how we like to unwind on vacation. The clubhouse was underwhelming too, just a few puzzles and the laundry room, so it didn’t feel like much of an amenity. The kitchen had very few cooking tools and was missing basics like tongs. I bought some and left them for future guests. Beds and bedding were merely okay, not terrible, but not particularly comfortable. There were no sleds in the unit either. We bought our own and will leave them for the next guests. Other condos nearby have provided sleds, so this felt very bare-bones by comparison. Check-in and check-out policies were frustrating. We arrived about two hours before the standard 4:00 PM check-in, and our assigned unit was clearly ready. We waited outside and saw no housekeeping activity, but still weren’t allowed in even a minute early. That felt unnecessarily rigid.

The back deck has pretty river views, and the condo is nicely equipped. It’s also close to the black bus line.

We’ve owned a timeshare condo here since the early 1980s and stay every year, so we know the property well. Despite annual dues going up, the upkeep has steadily gotten worse. There are still old maintenance problems: taped repairs on the flooring and refrigerator shelves, very outdated appliances that leak, worn kitchen items, and uncomfortable Sleep Number beds that feel like glorified air mattresses. The supplies are inadequate for a condo that sleeps 10. The hot tub, the only real amenity, has been closed for two years. We pay dues to Alderwood, but owners are told the amenities aren’t their responsibility. The most serious concern this year was safety. The upstairs loft railing was loose and came completely off the balusters when my adult son lightly grabbed it. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Our extended family owns four units for the same week, and we’re now seriously considering leaving for a place with better upkeep, safer conditions, and working amenities.

Fraser is a great town, and the people we met were friendly. There’s also a very nice walking trail by the creek, though the resort doesn’t get credit for it. I used expiring Disney points for this stay, but didn’t even get a full week, so the value for my 206 points was poor. The resort itself had plenty of problems. A two-year-old could pop the deadbolt on the entry door and get onto the landing, 14 steps above the parking lot. We caught her before she could fall, thankfully. The showers were dirty, and candy and other things left in dresser drawers suggested there was no sterilization and, at best, minimal cleaning. We also had noisy, drunken itinerant workers in the unit below us, and were expected to take out the trash. The drapes were moth-eaten, the shower heads old, and the toilets only 13 3/4 inches from floor to seat top. Parts were falling off various items. We couldn’t reach anyone in charge when we had a minor emergency, though we managed to solve it ourselves.
