Hotel Kitsmiller On Main

I usually have a hard time falling asleep in hotels, and I don't really like staying in them. This small, older place felt more like a cabin, with little attached carports for some rooms. It had a homey, comfortable feel, like visiting old family. It's clearly old, and you can tell, but that added to the feeling for me. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the wall-mounted home-style AC worked very well. The staff were friendly and courteous. I didn't need room service, so I can't speak to that. It's close to anything you'd want to do in town and wasn't stupid expensive. If I'm ever back in the area, I'll stay there again.

Once I sat in my car outside the room, my throat stopped hurting and my asthma and allergies eased up. Before that, my dog and I were both sneezing like crazy. I have asthma, and the AC seemed like it hadn't been cleaned. I checked it and found this, along with a dead fly on the wall. Half the outlets didn't work, and the beds were rock hard. I was running on 3-4 hours of sleep after packing up my home and driving six hours. Then it was $100 for one night. For this? Absolutely disgusting. You've got to be kidding me.

Really enjoyed this classic Texas room at a classic Motor Court. They also sell vintage records and clothes in the office, with some nice things.

The location is hard to beat, just off Main and about a block's walk from marketplatz. The hotel was so nice and incredibly clean. We even felt fine letting our baby crawl around. We'll definitely stay here again when we're back.
