Inn At The Olde Silk Mill

There’s so much room here for a big wedding, with several lovely spots for photos and the chapel now on site too. I’ve photographed multiple weddings at The Silk Mill and keep recommending it to couples who want things to run smoothly. The coordination team is top tier, and guests can stay on the property. There’s a bridal suite and a copper house room for the groom to get ready in. I love this venue and can’t recommend it enough.

I was hoping for more of a bed-and-breakfast feel. The room had a historic look and was fine, though it was only a little bigger than the bed. Breakfast was mostly cereal and a bagel or so. The coffee was great, though, and it wasn’t a bad stay.

Privacy and sleep were both a problem here. I could hear the people upstairs talking and coughing, and every step made the ceiling creak and thump. They kept talking, waking me before 7 a.m., and I ended up knowing all their business. On Saturday, noise from an event at the event center, loud music and sounds from the parking lot, felt like it was inside my room. Don’t come expecting a quiet night or any privacy. The room itself was dingy, with dust wads stuck to the ceiling tiles, and hair and dust caked into the bathroom corners. I even found a sewing needle on the floor. At least the bedding was clean. The entry and bathroom doors were wonky: the front one was hard to lock, and the bathroom one wouldn’t stay shut. The temperature was impossible to manage. The lowest heat setting made the room sauna-hot, but turning it off left it chilly because of drafty windows. Hot water took ages to reach the shower, so allow ten extra minutes beyond what you think you’ll need to get ready.

We booked this for an event, and everyone was pretty nice. It’s close enough to downtown to walk, so we hardly had to drive anywhere.
