Settlers Crossing

Watching the local wildlife go by each morning, along with the sheep herd, was a highlight. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and getting in and checking out were both easy. It’s close to Fredericksburg, and the affordable price made it a fun, special place to stay. We absolutely loved it and highly recommend it!

We spend hours on the porch at Settler's, talking and remembering. My parents have been coming for more than 15 years, and I started joining them years ago, flying in from Vegas. It was my Dad's happy place. Since he passed in January, we've brought my Mom back three times this summer to enjoy those memories. Our favorite cabins are the Baag and Pioneer, and we love Paco (the donkey) and the sheep. It's rustic and so relaxing, with plenty to do nearby in Fredericksburg. We've had several family reunions here over the years. If you want a relaxing stay in a great location, Settler's is the place.

The ranch is peaceful, interesting, and full of animals roaming around its acres. Melissa was helpful and accommodating, and Fredericksburg is close by with lots to see, do, and eat. Enchanted Rock is nearby too, so it's an easy day trip. We just finished four nights at Settlers Crossing, returning after about nine years. Both times we've stayed in the frontier cabin, which is charming, spotless, and comfortable, with good beds. We were glad to find it just as nice as we remembered.

We were sad to leave the Von Heindrich, and we'd love to come back and try the other homes at Settlers Crossing. Our German fachwerk cabin had so much character. Upstairs was a favorite, with two rooms full of old pieces: an antique armoire and four-poster bed, church pew, and wingback chair in the main bedroom, plus a smaller double bed with a very comfy mattress, a quirky green bench, a secretary, and lots of vintage encyclopedias in the second. Downstairs, the living room was rich with history, while the kitchen and bathroom suited the cabin's traditional feel. Outside, we watched deer from the rockers at night, and the crafty goats kept sneaking through the gated yard for breakfast grass. A whole group of goats and their donkey friend greeted us on arrival. The property has 35 acres and 8 homes, just minutes from the busy Historic District. We loved our time here and are grateful for the chance to relax and recharge.
