The AC kept the cabin cool, but it was extremely loud, and the patio had so many mosquitoes that I got 24 bites in about five minutes outside. The alarm seemed possessed: it went off at 6:00 a.m. both mornings, wouldn't turn off, and kept ringing even after I unplugged it. The bed sat 42 inches off the floor, with a step stool provided, and the mattress was so spongy it was hard to get out of. There was no shower, just a very deep tub reached by climbing stone steps. This place is definitely not suited to older or disabled guests. It's a shame, since I've stayed in the other Austin Street Retreat cabins before and they were great.

El Jefe's has a small, homey feel and a really unusual character. Though other houses are around, its tucked-away spot on the property gave us a sense of privacy. We could walk to main street easily, and after our one-night stay, we'd gladly return and recommend it.
